Overview

The University of South Florida is a global research university located in Tampa Bay on Florida's spectacular west coast. It is one of the largest public universities in the US, and among the top 50 public or private universities for federal research expenditure. The university is one of just four public universities in Florida classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in the top level of research universities, a distinction reached by just 2.3 percent of all universities.

At USF's heart is a diverse vibrant and actively engaged student body. Over 47,000 students are enrolled in USF's system of three separately accredited educational institutions –USF St. Petersburg, USF Tampa and USF Sarasota-Manatee – with an annual budget of $1.5 billion and ayearly impact on the economy of $3.7 billion. The Tampa campus is home to USF Health, including the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and Nursing.

There are 237 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and specialty levels. The university creates a dynamic learning experience, inspiring creativity, innovation and collaboration and focusing on students' successes. More than 2,000 expert teachers, distinguished scholar and researchers make up the USF faculty (nearly all hold PhDs or otherwise the highest degrees in their fields) – including the 2012 U.S. Professor of the Year.

USF is a member of the Big East Conference, with 17 men's and women's varsity teams competing at the NCAA-level. New facilities for competition and practice as well as a completely renovated USF Sun Dome, put the university's athletic facilities on the same level with just about every top program in the US.
